Shearer Carroll WestCBE is a British-American art-historian and university administrator serving as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds since 2024.

She was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham from 2017 to 2024.

Early life and education

West was raised in a small town in southwest Virginia.^[1] Her father worked as a factory floor supervisor, and her mother was a high school teacher.

West was the first in her family to attend university.^[1] West holds a B.A. in art history and English from the College of William & Mary, in Virginia, and a Ph.D.
